Information:
Spirulina is a freshwater algae that’s a natural powerhouse of nutrients. On a weight-for-weight basis, it provides 25 times more betacarotene than carrots, 50 times more iron than spinach, and 10 times more calcium than milk! All in all, it contains 100 natural nutrients, including protein, B-group vitamins, vitamin C, vitamin E, potassium, magnesium and zinc. No wonder it has a reputation as an energy-boosting superfood! Low in fats, calories, sugar and sodium. Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
The use of spirulina as a concentrated source of nutrients can be traced back to the Aztecs, and was documented by Spanish conqustadors in the 16th Century. Today it’s prized for the board spectrum of vitamins, minerals and amino acids it contains, and is considered particularly valuable as a protein supplement for vegetarians and vegans because (unlike legumes) it contains all essential amino acids.
